Testers Needed - Lick Me Love, Fresh & Free, Linen Bed Spray

We are in the process of testing three new products:

Fresh & Free is our new, all natural deodorant and we have already received orders from our testers. We hope to have this new product available in the very near future. This product is handmade and contains 100% natural ingredients!

Denise H. tested this product and called two days later with her report ..

"Nik, I love this product. I didn't realize it would be so warm on Sunday so I wore a turtle neck. I completely forgot I had been testing your deodorant until I realized how hot I was. I was surprised to find I didn't sweat much, but more importantly there weren't any odors. You have hit the mark on this one!"

Linen Bed Spray is a new product designed with all natural essential oils, hand picked to ward off those pesky bed bugs and other insects. Spray it on your luggage or bedsheets at home or even while on the road.

Last but certainly not least - Lick Me Love. This will become a part of my "Touch Me After Five" product line. We were delayed in testing this product due to delays in shipment of the container. Lick Me Love testing will begin with exploding flavors such as:

Supplements for Acne, Diabetes & General Health

I was doing some research on Acne - AGAIN - and found a few supplements that I though might of some interest to those suffering from outbreaks as well as general health.

Subtle Essence offers Acne Reducer, which contains all natural oils derived from plants, fruits and nuts to shrink pimples. We use Seabuckthorn Oil, Tea Tree, & Jojoba Oil, among a few others the naturally shrink pimples. Adjusting your diet may also yield positive results for breakouts. Daily cleansing, toning and a light moisturizer can also reduce breakouts.

When this isn't enough, try supplements such as:

Burdock Root - do not use this type of supplement if you're anemic taking iron supplements. Supports body systems by eliminating toxins and excess fluid, relieving menopause symptoms, great for acne and other skin disorder, useful for healthy gallbladder, liver and digestive functions, used in fighting weight loss, reduces cravings and hunger, and most importantly support healthy scalp condition and by prevent hair loss.

Borage Seed Oil great for hair, skin and cardiovascular health - http://hcbl.com/Products/99/Borage-Oil/Details.html?CUSTID=9iqsl0edfiuget6v8i4t78jak0

I typically purchase all my vitamin supplements from Healthy Center for Better Living. My dad turned me on to this company several years ago when he purchase Stable Sugar to help treat my diabetes, Milk Thistle to help support my liver and kidneys, Acidophilus to help support the intestinal tract and helps to maintain a healthy colon and Bilberry for my eyes.

My dad has kept me healthy through his own personal research on Herbalist approaches to good health. His community loves him as much as I do for the wealth of information he shares with all who asks. Aside from the herbs and vitamins he also bakes the best health cookie - those who have had it know how delicious they are, and my favorite mac & cheese!! (smile)

Thank You Daddy!! I love You!

Stay tuned for more information on the Acai Berry & Pomegranate!

New Year, New Products

This has been the busiest year for me ever!! I'm preparing for multiple vendor opportunities, working a full time job, balancing family and personal time and trying to stay healthy all at the same time. I've had some setbacks this year, but I'm getting my stride back. And when that happens - world beware!!

Based on customer feedback, I've made a few changes - for the better of course.

The Sugar Scrub has been improved. Not that there was anything wrong with it in the beginning, but I had challenges with it leaking out of the containers. I solved that problem by adding Sweet Almond Butter. Its not the ideal solution for those with nut allergies, but it can be modified for such. Adding the butter gave the scrub a thicker consistency, creamy texture, and more moisture then ever, but most importantly - it doesn't leak. Customers who have tried it love it and I'm sure you will too!

In January 2010 the Herbal Cuticle Treatment was borne out of need. I sanitize all my containers prior to use and am frequently submerging my hands in bleach, detergents & alcohol. As a result my cuticles have become dry, hard, cracked & peeling to the point of pain. Upon creating a cuticle treatment, I thought about what I was trying to achieve. I wanted to soothe my cuticles, promote healing and soften the cuticles. I combined calendula oil & tea tree oil for the soothing and healing, then the Illipe Butter for softening. Then topped it off with a few herbs. I applied it twice in a day and noticed healing by the next morning. Needless to say it was added to the line up the following day.

Next, we've added a Clarifying Vinegar & Herb Rinse. This new rinse will help remove excess build up from the hair that typical shampoos leave behind. It also brightens the color of your hair, especially if you have a permanent color. Its great for all hair types, chemically treated hair and virgin hair. Don't let the strong scent of vinegar discourage you. The scent will dissipate once the hair begins to dry.

Lastly, there's the new Silky Hair Butter for Dry Hair. The current Silky Hair Butter absorbs into the hair and scalp rather quickly and doesn't improve dry hair as much as I'd like to see. With that said, I decided to create new butter with Macadamia Nut Butter and a few other moisturizing butters. The end result, more moisturizing with a butter that still won't weigh the hair down.

Well, as you can see I've been quite busy on business home front, but busy creating wonderful products you can enjoy.

You are What you Eat!

You are what you eat! Junk goes in, junk comes out!
Healthy hair growth is contributed to a balance diet. Here are some Hair Food Facts!

WHOLE GRAINS

Whole Grains make great hair food. It’s fortified with iron, zinc and vitamin B, and believe it or not, whole gain can also give you a boost of energy!

GREEN VEGETABLES (Dark)
Vegetables like spinach, broccoli provides an excellent source of iron, calcium, and vitamin A & C. We all need these vitamins to help produce sebum. Sebum is the oily substance secreted by your hair follicles. Jojoba Oil, which is actually a wax, mimics the body’s sebum.

FISH – Specifically Salmon, Halibut & Snapper
Who knew this great tasting fish would actually be good for the brain and the hair. Salmon is packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, which is an excellent source of protein and vitamin B-12. These vitamins support a healthy scalp and give hair a revived healthy appearance. Other foods containing omega 3 include flaxseed, tofu, scallops & squash. A deficiency in Omega 3 Fatty Acids contribute to the ailments with Depression, Diabetes, Eczema, Headaches, Psoriasis and as well as other ailments.

NUTS
Not just any nut, there are specific nuts that promote a health of your scalp. Almond, Brazil Nuts, Walnuts, and Pecans are filled with alpha-linolenic acid which is an Omega-3 Fatty Acid, and zinc.

Zinc is important to healthy hair growth. If the body is deficient in zinc it can lead to shedding. Other foods containing zinc are oysters, Alaskan Crabs, Beans, Yogurt, Chickpeas, Peas & Oatmeal.

BEANS
Beans are loaded with B Vitamins, Calcium, Potassium and Folate. They aid in the healthy development of brain and nerve cells, skin, disgestive system, strong teeth, reduces the risk of high blood pressure and protects the hear against heart disease. If you’re like me and struggle to eat beans, then I’ll make this easy for you. Eat Black Beans once per week. Its filled with protein and promotes stronger hair growth. They aren’t that bad – if you mix it with rice! Enjoy!

SMALL SERVINGS OF LOW FAT DAIRY

Low-fat dairy products include yogurt, skim milk, cottage cheese, and low fat cheese are great sources of calcium, and protein which in turn, is an important mineral for hair growth.

Finally, Raw Fruits and ALL Vegetables, Plenty of Water and a Good Nights Sleep!

Dry Skin

When the seasons change, so does our skin – at least for some of us! Changes in the weather can adversely affect our skin, especially in the water. In the winter our skin loses water and oil. It begins to feel dull, flakey and dry due to an insufficient production of sebum, which is a natural oil the body produces. Some people produce more sebum then others, and those that do produce more tend to have oily skin. Either way, they can both be problematic, especially in the winter. The dry chilly air tends sap the oil and moisture from the skin. For some it can be slightly painful, while others are not bothered at all.

Applying lotion to the skin in the winter may not be enough. One should consider applying a heavier moisturizer like body butter and creams. Choose products that actually penetrate the skin. These types of products shouldn’t contain excessive amounts of water, mineral oil and petroleum jelly. Read your labels. If water, mineral oil and petroleum jelly are among the first five ingredients, then you are less likely to cure your dry skin issues. You need natural oils, shea butter and aloe vera. These types of ingredients actually penetrate the skin upon first use and many are hypoallergenic. Subtle Essence offers multiple products that can help treat your dry skin. We offer:

· Bath and Body Oil
· Body Butter Love
· Ash Buster
· All Natural Coconut Oil
· Just Shea

Log on to our website to place your order! www.subtle-essence.com

QUICK TIPS:
* For best results, always apply your moisturizer immediately after bathing. Your skin absorbs and retains oils quickly.
* Avoid taking hot baths/showers. Hot water tends to dry out the skin.
* A healthy balanced diet contributes to great skin.
* Milk baths and soaps that contain milk actually helps to replenish moisture in the skin.
* Use petroleum jelly to coat and protect the skin. It should be used to protect the skin from the cold.

My Hair does NOT control ME!

My Hair does NOT control ME! I watched Oprah where she interviewed Chris Rock and Solange about how women allow our HAIR to control our lives. Many women invest thousands of dollars into their hair, whether its a weave, braids, perms, hair color, etc. Women are - at times - held bondage by their hair.

We can't swim because we don't want to get our hair wet. We don't work out because we don't want our scalp/hair to sweat. We don't want our men touching our hair "cause he don't know its not mine" or we just don't want him to mess it up. We sleep with our head hanging off the bed or we sleep "pretty" so we don't mess up our hair. Our hair controls us. It defines who we are and what we do.

Starting today - free yourself from the bondage of your hair!! Stop letting it control YOU! Don't get me wrong, we all want to look fabulous, but the question is - to what extent? Solange mentioned she spent tens of thousands of dollars to maintain "perfect hair". And for what? To impress someone else.

Women have strong opinions about what most people call "good hair". Good hair is NOT straight, curly, nor wavy. Its NOT black, brown, blonde or grey. Its NOT short, long or shoulder length. Good hair is healthy hair - regardless as to whether is virgin or chemically treated. The question is - is it clean and healthy?

I've always chemically straightened [perm] my hair and I use hair color. It's the best choice FOR ME! But the bottom line is that it's the way I like it, manageable, and its healthy. I don't alter my life around my hair. So what if my friends and family don't like it - I LIKE IT! Its MY HAIR!

My sister has virgin hair and its thick, its healthy, and its beautiful - she's beautiful! My good friend cut all her hair off and she looks fabulous!!Some wear wigs because they want to be versatile, while other choose braids.

Whatever your choice, whatever your style, don't be held captive by your hair! Forget what people think! Forget what HE likes! What do you like! My primary focus is maintaining healthy hair, while styling is secondary. Aside from a perm and hair color, all other products I use on my hair are gentle and natural and my hair is healthy. When its wet, it's a mess! Humidity destroys my style! But what matters to me most is that its clean, its healthy!

Subtle Essence offers all natural hair care products. Our top sellers this month has been the Detangle Pudding, Silky Hair Butter and the Herbal Treatment. We also offer Virgin Coconut Oil, Renaissance Hair Oil, Leave In Conditioners, Pomades and other all natural products designed to promote growth of stronger, healthier hair!

Whiteheads!

Blackheads, whitehead, they are all the same thing – right? The answer to that is NO.

Whiteheads develop deep within the skin where skin cells become clogged and the follicle close. Whiteheads are small and appear on the outer layer of the skin like a white raised bump. Medical terms categorize them as a closed comedones. Whiteheads can be just as ugly and annoying as blackheads, but whiteheads can destroy the skin. They typically appear on the sides of the nose, cheekbones and forehead where the skin is thinner and the chin.

Here are a few ways to avoid getting whiteheads:

* Drink plenty of water. This helps in removing toxins from the skin.

* Try washing your face with mild cleansers and exfoliate once weekly with a mild facial scrub. Once you are done cleansing and exfoliating, try steam. This will help soften the skin and opens up the pores. This can be an important step. You want to open the pores to help remove the toxins from the skin, then close the pores using a mild toner to avoid both black & white heads.

* Apply a facial clay with fruit. Honey, strawberries and papaya are great for acne prone skin, while lemons work well to reduce whiteheads and black spots.

* Always rinse with lukewarm water. Hot water can be damaging to the skin.

Acne can also be due to:
* poor diet, lack of exercise, environmental or hormonal changes, harsh soaps
* hair/products you use on your hair
* dirty pillowcases
* products containing mineral oil

Subtle Essence products will never contain pore clogging mineral oil. We offer gentle facial cleansers, clay masks, toners, and a light facial butter. Stay tuned for our Honey Tropics Mask and a moisturizing facial serum specifically designed for acne prone skin.

When all else fails, you may need to seek out a dermatologist.

Dry Chapped Lips

Chapped lips are quite common. Your lips can become painfully dry, red and chapped in colder climates and they can also get sunburned. When your skin becomes dry you use a moisturizer, but when lips are dry you need a extra protection. You can coat the lips for protection against sunburn or the cold by using petroleum jelly, but if you want to moisturize them you’ve got to go a step further and use a moisturizing lip balm.
Aside from environmental reason for chapped lips your lips can become dry due to a lack of water, medication, poor diet, and a vitamin deficiency.
You can avoid dry, chapped lips by:
· Avoid licking your lips excessively. By doing so, your lips can become darker and loose their moistness.
· Ladies, before applying your favorite lipstick apply lip balm. This helps the lips remain soft and moist.
· Get into the habit of using a lip balm to keep lips soft, smooth and kissable.
· Before going out into the cold, protect your lips with petroleum jelly. Petroleum jelly is one of the few occasions which I recommend the use of the product. Because petroleum jelly coats the skin rather then moisturizing it, it works well on the lip and on a baby’s bottom when diaper rash is present. Otherwise, use caution as it may clog the pores.
· Keeping the body hydrated by drinking lots of water.
· Avoid peeling the dead dry skin from the lips.
· I’ve never tried this, but I’ve heard a few people say it works. Here goes! Soak rose petals in raw milk for few hours. Then make it a paste and apply on the lips to keep them pink and smooth. This helps the lips to retain their lost color.

I hope I’ve been able to give you some insight on treating your dry cracked lips.

Subtle Essence offers a lip balm with Shea & Kokum butter called Sweet Lypz. Its leaves lips feeling soft, smooth and kissable. Try it today!

Blackheads

At some point in life, we have all had black heads. You might be asking yourself, where do they come from? Blackheads develop when sebum clogs the pores of our skin and collects the dirt, which hardens the pores. People with oily skin tend to develop more black heads due to excess sebum and open pores. The end result - blackheads. People who have blackheads do so because of infrequent cleansing of the face and the back – yes the back.
Oil typically develops on the T-Zone of the face – that is on the nose, forehead, and chin. Black heads can be hideous and difficult to remove because they lie deeply in the skin. The one misconception many people have is that you should squeeze the blackhead to remove them. Nevertheless, the reality is that you actually worsen them and develop scars, and possibly infection.
The problem is not just external you need to keep the skin toxins free by drinking lots of water to prevent the skin from getting black heads and cutting away your tea or coffee intake. You can reduce your chances of developing blackheads by
· Washing your face regularly with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser or African Black Soap twice a day.
· After washing, use a mild toner to remove excess oil, dirt and make up from the skin,
· Facial scrubs and clay masks will reduce your chances of blackhead because it act as an exfoliant.
· Apply oil free moisturizer such as Perfection Facial Butter.
· Drinking plenty of water helps to hydrate the skin, flushing way toxins from the body and making the skin soft, smooth & supple.
· Citrus will help remove excess grease and build up from the skin
· Steaming the face prior to applying a facial mask or scrub helps in removing the black heads.

We can all reduce our chances of developing blackheads and other forms of acne by proper cleansing, eating a well balanced diet, drinking plenty of water and daily cleansing.

Subtle Essence has a full line of skin care products that can help you treat blackhead. We offer:

What about my hair?

FACT: Your hair is dead and is not capable of repairing itself. Damaged hair must be cut.

Anyone that knows me knows I love to talk about the HAIR and coming up with all kinds of recipes to treat anything from hair loss, to shine, to covering up that stubborn grey hair! I use Beer as a conditioner, Apple Cider Vinegar to treat dandruff and remove build up, mayo and avocado for moisturizing and protein and more!!! I received my license in cosmetology in 1989. I initially picked up on maintenance verses styling. It was more important to me to have healthy hair first, then a cute style. I’ve always tried to educate my clients on maintaining their healthy hair before venturing into various styles. With that said, today, I’d like to focus on treating dry, splitting ends.

There are countless products on the market designed to moisturize the hair. Some deliver results and some don’t. Many commercial products contain some type of silicone, which is designed to reduce the appearance of damaged, split ends. To some - this is a dream come true, but the fact of the matter is split ends, when left untreated, can significantly damage the hair. Split ends cannot be repaired. Split ends typically come from heat styling agents and chemical applied to the hair. In to avoid further splitting, the damaged portion of your hair must be cut.

Dry brittle hair and split ends can come from:
* harsh shampoos
* excessive heat styling
* chemicals (perms/relaxers, coloring, etc..)
* excessive use of gels & hairspray
* teasing the hair
* poor hair maintenance
* tangled hair
* hair weaves & braids
* poor eating habits and lack of water.

When choosing your products, avoid those containing mineral oil, alcohol, silicones, and other synthetic ingredients and excessive fragrance.

Here are a few hair tips:

* When hair is wet, use a wide tooth comb to comb thru the hair.
* Avoid excessive heat
* Use a satin scarf, cap or pillow case when sleeping
* Use a microfiber towel when drying hair. Avoid excessive wringing of the hair. This can cause damages.
* Massaging the scalp stimulates circulation, thus promoting growth.
* Eat a healthy balanced meal and drink lots of water.
* Hair vitamins WORK! Try them today. If you are taking Biotin, please note it can cause excessive hair growth all over the body. Drink Mint Tea to combat excessive body hair.

Subtle Essence offers an excellent Silk Hair Butter made with Shea, Murumuru, Tucuma and Aloe Butter. It’s highly moisturizing and great for maintaining a healthy appearance. Its works best when used on damp hair, but can be used ANYTIME!

Our Coconut Shea Pomade is great for the hair & scalp. We use Virgin Coconut Oil & Shea Butter for moisturizing, Beeswax for manageability, Meadowfoam Seed Oil for shine and Emu Oil for the scalp, which promotes growth.

Renaissance Hair Oil is absolutely fantastic for shinier, healthier hair, stronger hair! It’s packed with great nutrients for the hair. There’s Rosemary, Thyme, Sweet Orange Essential Oil; Broccoli Seed Oil, Camellia & Passion Fruit Oils combined to shine & strengthen the hair.

How does it work?

I love talking about HAIR and coming up with all kinds of recipes to treat anything from hair loss, to shine, to covering up that stubborn grey hair! I was a cosmotologist and I love, love, love HAIR!

Today, I want to discuss how shampoos work and cleansing the hair. Although not as facinating as other topics, the basics will help you understand how you actually cleanse the hair! Enjoy!

Shampoos work to cleanse the hair and scalp. All shampoos have a base surfactant – meaning ‘surface active agent'. Surfactants are the essential cleaning substances in shampoos. Oils, like sebum, your scalp's natural oils, do not mix with water, the water needs an addition to make the oily matters soluble. Surfactants are the ‘power ingredients' that do this.

When your shampoo is mixed with water it creates what we call “lather”. Please understand the amount of lather DOES NOT reflect the cleaning power of the shampoo. For some, it gives the impression the hair is clean. Its an indicator that it spread through the hair and upon rinsing, it shows us that we rinsed well. Sorry we couldn't’t give you a more technical and elaborate response, but it truly is that simple.

Surfactants are what actually cleanse the hair, but the surfactant alone doesn’t create the lather. Surfactants loosen, lift and remove the dirt, excessive amounts of called sebum. When you rinse your shampoo from your hair, the dirt particles are removed together with the lather.

Establishing healthy hair and scalp requires effort. Its wise to brush your hair gently before cleansing the hair. Brushing stimulated the hair follicle and loosen dirt/oils on the scalp. Your hairbrush should be made from man-made materials. While cleansing the hair massage the scalp and always ensure the shampoo covers the entire head of hair – from the root to the scalp. Always rinse thoroughly. Shampoo not rinsed from the hair will leave hair feeling and looking dull and lifeless, thereby, attracting more dirt. Its only necessary to wash the hair once, however, all cosmetologist are taught to wash the hair at least twice for the sake of the patron and not knowing the time span between shampoos. Towel dry the hair, but avoid rubbing, pulling or wringing wet hair. Wet hair loses its resilience/toughness, hence making it more prone to snapping and breakage.

ECZMEA

What is eczema?

Eczema is described an inflamed skin conditions and is quite common. The most common form is atopic dermatitis, atopic eczema. Surprisingly, nearly 20 percent of the world population is affected by this condition. Commonly found in children, it typically goes away as they age. In all others, well, it comes and goes. Research has shown eczema appears to be an abnormal response of the body’s immune system. Typically people with eczema experience an inflammatory response to irritating substances, causing itching and scratching. Its not contagious and cannot be cured, treated, but not cured. Certain things can trigger a flare up, like soaps, harsh detergents, disinfectants, food allergies, dust mites, perspiration and body care products.

What does it look like?

Eczema is characterized by dry, red, extremely itchy patches on the skin. They become red and inflamed once you scratch. It can appear anywhere on the body. It typically appears on the face, neck, and the insides of the elbows, knees, and ankles. In some people, it bubbles up and ooze, while in others, it may appear scaly, dry, and red.

How can I avoid flare up?

* Moisturize the skin frequently
* Perspiration can trigger a flare up. Try to avoid sudden changes in temperature
* Reduce stress at all costs
* Avoid clothing containing irritating, scratchy materials (wool for example)
* Avoid harsh soaps and detergents
* Pollens, molds, dust mites and possibly animal dander trigger flare ups
* Food allergies can also cause flare ups

How can I treat my eczema naturally, without the use of steroids and cortisone creams?

Eczema is best treated after bathing because this is point in which your skin LOCKS in moisture. Apply eczema treatments within 0-5 minutes after bathing. If you have a more severe case of eczema, you may require a more intensive treatment, requiring you to seek medical attention.

How can I treat eczema?

There are many herbs available for treating eczema. They strengthen the immune system and help the liver to work more efficiently. Studies have shown that most people suffering from eczema have weaker immune systems and are most likely to have other viral problems.

With the help of my father, I began taking herbal supplements for many of my health ailments, which have brought tons of success and a new found respect for my dad, who is nearly 80 and THRIVING. He recommended my sister take the Milk Thistle to protect her liver from a harsh medication she had been prescribed. When she returned to the doctors for a monthly check of her liver, they told her most people usually have some signs of liver damage, but surprisingly, they found no signs of damage.

Herbal supplements containing the following will aid in treating eczema:
Omega 3 fatty acids Flaxseed Oil
, and other fish oils
Evening Primrose Oil - promotes lubrication of the skin
Black Cumin Oil
Borage Oil
- help skin retain moisture and suppleness
Hemp Seed
Pumpkin Seed
Sesame Oil
Sunflower Oil
Burdock Root
which improves the skin and minimizes destruction of skin cells
Milk Thistle – also known as the liver herb because of its benefits to the liver
Vitamin A & B
Zinc
- aids healing and enhances immune function

In addition, I began experimenting with a few of my own natural remedies. I created an Herbal Eczema Bath Tea containing Ayurvedic and other ingredients like:

* Calendula - soothes inflamed, red skin,
* Chamomile - relieves itching
* Sea Kelp - healing tissues & skin conditioner
* Bentonite Clay – aids in removing toxins
* Oatmeal - soothes and moisturizes the skin
* and few secret ingredients!

This bath tea naturally aids in healing and moisturizing the skin. Remember, avoid hot water. This contributes to eczema flare ups.

I then follow up with either my Shealoe Butter or Eczema Oil which contains Emu oil – which is GREAT for eczema. Other topical treatments include

o Aloe Vera Gel
o Witch Hazel – relieves inflammation

Lastly, try to avoid foods with dyes, dairy, high fructose corn syrup, and fried and processed foods. Increase your intake of fresh fruits - especially papaya, and vegetables – especially green leafy vegetables and ginger teas. I’ll have more on organic teas later.

This isn’t intended to be a cure or substitute to any medical treatment you may already be on. Please consult with a healthcare provider before changing your normal regiment. With that said, I use my own advice, and to date my daughter, nor I use medicated creams to treat eczema, steroids, antihistamines or cortisones to treat eczema.

As promised, here's my sweet treat for the day!

Although I don’t suffer from Acne, I do experience pimples occasionally. Acne can stem from both internal and external factors. It could be medical problem, which would require professional attention. But often times it’s from what we eat, maybe our skin and hair care products or simply put – improper hygiene.

Foods containing high amounts of sugar (high fructose corn syrup), fatty and fried foods, and artificial colors found in many drinks contribute to most break outs. Eating a healthy, balanced diet containing fresh fruits and vegetable and drinking plenty of water can help reduce break outs.

Your hair care products can also contribute to break outs. Many people use products containing alcohol, synthetic oils, and other harsh chemicals. These chemical do eventually come in contact with your face and shoulders causing irritation. When attempting to self diagnose your situation, this should be factored in as well.

Now, when I say improper hygiene I am in no attempting to insult anyone. Improper hygiene simply means you may not be washing your face frequently enough. If you suffer from oily skin, try using a toner and cosmetic pad to absorb some of the oil and reduce the shine. Washing your face twice a day can help remove built up grease and dirt on the skin. Using a toner and facial masks/scrubs helps pull grease and dirt that’s below the surface and in the pores. Following up with a light facial moisturizer also helps maintain the skins elasticity.

I’ve tried commercial facial washes and moisturizers containing unnatural ingredients, but nothing has worked better then products containing natural ingredients, which lead me to customizing my own and using food which may be in your kitchen right now.

Foods that are great for the face include oatmeal, honey, lemon juice, banana, mango, strawberries, blueberries, papaya, and pineapple – just to name a few. Mixing food with your facial mask increases the action of the product. Your choice of which foods to use will depend upon your skin type.
Honey’s great for all, but works especially well on pimples.
All Berries work well on acne prone skin and reduces pores.
Papaya reduces pores but its ideal for mature skin
Pineapple works as a great skin conditioner.
Mango prevent the formation of wrinkles and the drying of skin and restores flexibility.
Banana makes a great moisturizing face mask.
Lemon Juice is great for oily skin

Making a few minor adjustments to your facial regiment could yield your desired results. You are on your way to healthy, beautiful skin! Subtle Essence has a great skin natural care system that works great for all skin types. We offer a Facial Wash for normal, dry and oily skin types, a Green Tea Facial Wash specifically for dry skin, Grapefruit Toner for oily skin, Rose Toner for all other skin types, Facial Clay Masks for all skin types, facial moisturizers and other accessories to maximize your facial spa experience.

Need Help?

Do you have questions about natural hair and skin care? E-mail us contact@subtle-essence.com . We'll post your question and answer on the blog.

Hope to hear from you soon!

I'm Back - AGAIN!

Hello out there! I'm back - again! I've been really busy with LIFE - work, home, family, finances.. etc..
Well, I promise - from this day forward to post more frequently then before, but I'm gonna start off a little different. Since skin care, hair care and writing are just a few of my passions, I thought I would help educate you and share some of my secrets. I post a few of them on a few other websites, and get great feedback - so why not mine! Right?

I won't bore you and it won't be much to read, but what you will get is helpful advice. As a licensed cosmetologist, I have always been fascinated with hair and skin care. I had a great instructor [Mrs. Willie-Mae Johnson] who instilled proper hair and skin care above all things. Although I don't practice cosmetology anymore, that doesn't stop me from creating all natural products for the hair and skin. I have conducted research on all the ingredients I use to ensure I maximize desired results.

Some may look a little foreign to you, but rest assured, they all provide the maximum benefit!! For example, I use various types of butter. You're probably most familiar with Shea Butter - right? Well I also use exotic butters like Kokum Butter, Uccuba Butter, Mango Butter or Cupuacu Butter, maybe even Sweet Almond Butter and Grapeseed Butters. I also use Aloe Vera Juice in place of water when required. I avoid using harsh chemical and synthetic coloring for the sake of having a product I can call natural.

Please keep in mind that problems in skin and hair care typically don't occur overnight and can't be fixed overnight, but in time you will notice RESULTS and save money!

Stay tuned for tomorrows BLOG! You are in for a treat - a sweet treat!

New Product!

Good day all! This past weekend, I set up a table at Miss. Charlotte's Crab cakes and sold my products. Surprisingly, the top sellers of the day were Soul Scent, a scented gel air freshener, the Subtle Shea Lotion, Misty Toes Scrub & Foot Butter and of course the Body Butter Love. Mandarin was the most popular scent request by both men & women. If you're in the area and would like to sample the products, the restaurant is located at 4192 Minnesota Ave, NE, Washington, DC.

Sales were great and I plan to return Friday & Saturday afternoons until Christmas. It was a pleasure meeting the customers and talking with them about proper skin and hair care treatments.

I recently added two new products to the line up. The first is a leave in detangling conditioner. It has a light and refreshing scent, doesn't leave any residue and works great at conditioning the hair.

The second addition is Men's scented oil. The majority of my male clientele requested scented oils in a smaller size for daily use. Size options are limited to 1/4 oz until further notice.

We will carry the following products on site:

Body Butter Love
Raw Shea Butter
Subtle Shea Lotion
Splash Body Mist
Shower Gel
Body Oil
Bath Salts
Soul Scents Gel & Reed Diffusers
African Black Soap
Sugar Scrubs

I look forward to seeing you! Have a great week!!

Subtle Essence Family

These are pictures of my children and I. This is my motivation behind Subtle Essence. They resisted giving up commercial products for homemade product - now they can't live with out it. When we gave up those products we also said goodbye to acne, eczema flare up, dry skin, paraben, mineral oil, and other harsh chemicals we were using on our hair skin and nails!
My Son Jonathan & I.

I use all my products - from the top of my head down to the bottom of my feet. I contribute a health head of hair to my Herbal Shampoo and Condition, clear skin to the African Black Soap and Perfection Facial butter, Bath Butter and Body Butter Love on my dry skin, Sugar Scrubs, Lip Balm, Foot Butter and MORE!

Notice any acne on this teenagers face? Maybe a few freckles, but no acne! Jonathan favorites are African Black Soap, Subtle Shea Lotion and our vegan Lip Balm.

My daughter Brelyn has a healthy head of hair. Its free from dandruff, itchy scalp and breakage. She uses our Renaissance Herbal Shampoo & Conditioner, Hair Butter on her scalp, organic hair oil and Silk Milk, all of which I created. Her glowing skin is due to African Black Soap, Body Butter Love, but she prefers Subtle Shea Lotion scented with Honey Love.

Brelyn is instrumental in the creation of Sweet Lypz. Sweet Lypz is our vegan lip balm. Her favorite is Menthol.

Until we chat again - Enjoy!
